SIGNAL BLANKETS
2018/2019

This photographic series follows the fragile journeys of people crossing the Balkans and the Mediterranean, marked only by the shimmering presence of discarded emergency blankets. These metallic sheets, designed to protect a body in crisis, become silent witnesses to movement, exhaustion, and hope left behind in the landscape. By placing this industrial, reflective surface within forests, fields, and shorelines, the work highlights the tension between visibility and erasure: the migrants themselves are absent, yet their vulnerability and resilience remain inscribed in the terrain. The series invites viewers to consider how borders, policies, and distant conflicts materialize in these quiet scenes, asking who is protected, who is exposed, and whose stories are allowed to be seen.
